The Brandery kicks off the catwalk with premieres of international collections
Exhibitions, catwalk shows, competitions and other activities characterise the spectacle that is The Brandery Winter 2011, the international trade show of urban and contemporary fashion organized by the Fira de Barcelona, held from 26 to 28 January in Hall 8 of the Montjuïc Exhibition Centre and featuring brands including North Sail, New Zealand, Mastrum, Ganesh, Tortuga, Lyle & Scott, CK, Cottonfield (Modania), American Vintage and Sa.yan. Plus Custo Barcelona will be launching his second line, “Custo Line”, internationally and Phard is presenting its first collection for men.

This edition of the Brandery will be launching a daily catwalk show featuring the A/W 2011–2012 collections of various brands, both collectively and individually. This offers brands the perfect instrument for exhibiting their collections “in movement”. Known as “The Brandery Catwalk”, this space will also have a backstage open to the public where visitors can get an unparalleled behind-the-scenes experience of the buzzing fashion show atmosphere.
The Brandery is hosting 147 brands this time around, with slightly fewer Spanish brands than in January 2010 due to the crisis in the domestic market. However, foreign brands have maintained their support for the show and represent 49% of the total (71 firms).
The City fills Barcelona with fashion
The show will also be hosting major buyers of the calibre of El Corte Inglés and John Lewis, who will be holding “speed dating” meetings with several brands, as well as La Rinascente and the French chain Galerie Lafayette, amongst many other national retailers and international distributors. To facilitate buyers’ attendance at the event, The Brandery has devised a Hosted Retailers Plan designed specifically to attract high level professionals with purchasing power. The organization thus hopes to increase the volume of business associated with the event.

The City, the section of The Brandery that encompasses all the activities that take place in Barcelona associated with fashion and with the trade show, is holding the exhibition “Shoot’n The City” on Passeig de Gràcia: 50 fashion photos taken by photographers such as Antoni Bernad, Xevi Muntané, Sergi Pons and Manuel Outumuro will be showcased on the emblematic Barcelona boulevard. At the same time, the Coca-Cola Light Fashion Tour will be exhibited on Avenida Mª Cristina from 24 to 30 January, featuring eight giant Coca-Cola Light bottles customized by the designers Devota & Lomba, Francis Montesinos, Roberto Verino, Juan Duyos, David Delfín, Lydia Delgado, Miriam Ocáriz and Amaya Arzuaga.

Another of the The City’s events involves more than one hundred of the top stores in Barcelona, distributed across a broad area of the city centre between Passeig de Gràcia and the Borne district. This is “Windows on the Move”, a window-dressing competition instigated by The Brandery in conjunction with Barcelona retailers.

Another standout feature of the show is The Laundry, the place where the The Brandery brings together fashion experts and professionals, philosophers, economists and experts from the most prestigious business schools in Barcelona and abroad to discuss a range of topics related to the world of fashion, creativity and trends. This forum of debate will also host the second meeting of international bloggers, and conferences on trends organized by WGSN, the leading online trend-analysis and creative information firm for the fashion industry.
